Arsenal have good foundations to build from next season says Eidevall

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall believes that strong foundations have been put in place for the club to build on next season.

The Gunners have managed to successfully retain the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup this term but they have failed to reach the same heights in the other competitions.

While the 2023/2024 season should not be seen as a failure for Arsenal, head coach Eidevall has continually expressed the need for more consistency from his side. As The Gunners head into the close season, Eidevall believes that good foundations have been put down this year and he is hopeful of building the level of consistency that is required in 2024/2025.

“I do [think there are good foundations in place],” Eidevall said when speaking in an Arsenal press conference. “I think it’s been a year of a lot of turmoil from an injury point of view. You will have that when you get as many long-term injuries as we had. First, you lose players but then you also have to guide them back and doing that in a safe way, I always knew that it was going to be a challenge.

“I am very proud of the players and the whole staff team for the way that we have been integrating and getting players back to full fitness from long-term injuries. We’ve been doing that in a good and caring way but that has now been two seasons where of course, there are a lot of moving parts.

“I think when we’re looking at trying to be as successful as possible from a results perspective, we also need consistency and building relationships and hopefully, I think we’re at a good foundation to be able to do that next year.”

Arsenal will end the Barclays Women’s Super League season with a game against Brighton & Hove Albion at Meadow Park tomorrow. While The Seagulls have had a disappointing campaign, Eidevall still believes that his side will be made to work hard for the three points.

He said “They’re a hard working team. They obviously changed details in the way that they play with a managerial change in the season, but they’re well organised, they’re hard working, they’re very good in their crossing game and you have to defend crosses very well against them.”

Arsenal’s final Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
