Arsenal have been given a boost in their bid to sign Danilo after the Palmeiras midfielder insisted he is ready to “play in any competition in the world”.

The Gunners were reportedly keen on the 21-year-old in the summer and are now said to be weighing up whether to make a move for him in January.

A new winger is thought to be the priority with Mykhailo Mudryk their number on target, but Danilo’s latest comments could push Edu, who was recently promoted to become the club’s first sporting director, to strengthen the squad by landing the central midfielder.

“I see myself mature enough to be able to play in any competition in the world, I’m ready,” Danilo told UOL Esporte.

“[I am ready] because Palmeiras helped me a lot, from the base, with [director] Joao Paulo [Sampaio], and I kept my mentality strong with the arrival of Abel (the Palmeiras manager).

“But I prefer not to get involved with these transfer issues. I told my manager to only talk to me if it’s the right thing. Then we sit down and talk to Palmeiras and decide what’s best for everyone.”

Arsenal were told last summer that Danilo was not for sale, but having helped Palmeiras become champions, the Brazilian side have now reportedly softened their stance with the season now complete.

It’s thought a fee of around £20m may be enough, with 20 per cent of that fee due to Cajazeiras, one of Danilo’s first clubs.

Leandro Trossard is another player the Gunners have been linked with in recent days, with rumours intensifying after his agent revealed he had previously held talks with the north Londoners.

But Fabrizio Romano has dampened Arsenal hopes, stating: “Leandro Trossard’s agent has been speaking about holding talks with Arsenal a few years ago, and this has inevitably attracted a lot of interest.

“This might not come across in the agent’s interview, but it was nothing serious – it’s normal for agents of talented players to have many conversations with top clubs around Europe and that’s what happened. It was never an advanced negotiation with Arsenal.

“Trossard is now performing great for Brighton. I think he’s very good player but I don’t see him leaving in January.”
