Arsenal are considered favourites to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the likes of Juventus and AC Milan, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Gunners are likely to sign a new centre-forward during this summer’s transfer window and they have been constantly linked with Zirkzee since the beginning of the year.

Gazzetta dello Sport today (page 12) claim that Juventus and Milan are among his admirers. The former are particularly keen on landing his signature from their Serie A counterparts.

However, the Gunners have the higher economical power and it is reported that the €60 million asking price would not be a problem for Mikel Arteta’s side this summer.

Zirkzee may not be the solution for Arsenal up front

The Dutchman has had a good progressive season with Bologna. He has registered 12 goals and seven assists from 35 appearances in all competitions for his club.

Zirkzee, 22, has played a big part in their surprise push for Champions League football. This is a prime reason why Bologna are looking for a premium fee for his services.

The Italian side have set their price tag based on his potential, but we believe the Gunners should avoid signing him and focus on a more accomplished striker.

Kai Havertz has a similar goal contribution tally (19) to Zirkzee for Arsenal this season despite starting only 33 per cent of his games from the number nine role.

Arsenal need someone who can take them to the next level and make them favourites to win the league.

A 25 to 30 goal striker is what the Gunners need to progress further. Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres would be a much better acquisition, but he could cost much higher.
