Arsenal remain the favourites to sign Gabriel Jesus this summer, despite missing out on Champions League and rival interest from Spurs.

Globo Esporte report that though Gabriel Jesus is generating interest from some big clubs this summer, Arsenal are still the current favourites to sign him.

The player’s camp are in England to sort out his future, and they are planning to do so over the next week. Arsenal’s absence from the Champions League hasn’t affected a potential deal.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal want Jesus as a priority and nothing has changed in the wake of the conclusion of the top-four race – with further updates to follow in the coming days.

The player himself responded to questions about his future on Sunday, saying: “About my future, it’s still uncertain.

“I have a contract with City and I have already expressed my desire to the City people and to my agent.

“I have in my head very clear what I want. Today, I want to celebrate a lot with City.”

But the threat of other interested parties is growing. The Telegraph report that Tottenham Hotspur are poised to compete for the signing, with Jesus’ agent aware of Spurs’ interest.

Yet that would be a bizarre move for Jesus to make. If he wants to play second-fiddle to a striker whose position in the starting lineup is pretty much guaranteed every week, he can already do that at City with Erling Haaland, and pick up trophies as well.

At Spurs, it seems unlikely he’s going to displace Harry Kane. At Arsenal, there’s currently no one to displace unless Alexandre Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah pull a u-turn and extend.

So if Jesus wants a transfer so he can be the main man somewhere ahead of the World Cup later this year, Arsenal are the only logical destination.
