Arsenal fans watched on as Mikel Arteta and the home players won 2-0.

Newcastle United finally losing after a first half that saw Shelvey hit the bar and what appeared a clear penalty denied, when Schar was dragged to the ground in the penalty area.

Newcastle’s defensive frailties exposed with the two second half goals, that came via good moves by the home side.

For Arsenal fans though, they are seemingly still not convinced by Mikel Arteta, despite Arsenal exiting the weekend having joined fourth placed West Ham on 23 points, only seven behind leaders Chelsea.

The last 12 games have seen Arsenal win nine, draw two and lose only one, yet for many Arsenal fans they still want Mikel Arteta out. Quite extraordinary, though maybe not unexpected, considering how the same Arsenal fans forced Arsene Wenger out, despite him revolutionising their club and at the same time winning three Premier League titles and eight FA Cups, including three in his final five seasons. Arsenal fans not happy that they ‘just’ qualified for the Champions League for almost an entire two decades.

So what did the Arsenal fans make of Newcastle United and indeed their own team and manager…

Arsenal fans commenting via their Arsenal Mania

His teams had a terrible defensive record and when you’re at the bottom of the table the first thing you want is to get the defense solid. I can’t see Newcastle staying up at this point.’

‘There is still time to get Big Sam in…’

‘Someone claimed that Newcastle should have had 3 penalties. What situations?’

‘Shearer was going mental for the one were Ødegaard was holding someone at a corner…nothing better than seeing that baldy b.stard unhappy though.’

‘They were mostly pot shots [from NUFC], we coulda played all month Newcastle were never scoring I don’t think.

First half was boring as hell.’

‘5 shots on target but they really only had one quality scoring chance all game – a great fingertip save by Ramsdale off Shelvey. It was generally a good defensive effort, albeit against weak opposition.’

Getting top 4 for the sake of top 4 isn’t good enough.’

‘Just love to see Newcastle keep plunging after their new owners news.’

‘Arteta Out is trending ffs.’

‘Probably started trending after the first 40 mins where we looked we were heading for a draw. We did improve after that however.’

‘Thank God we won.

I couldn’t bare the thought of losing to a team that has Joelinton leading the line for them.’

‘For Howe and Newcastle I think he got the right idea between being aware of how bad his defense is and implementing his style, but with the more intense game it was expected the team was going to drop in the 2nd half. If he can figure out how to get the best of both Almiron and Shelvey they shouldn’t have a lot of trouble escaping relegation.’

‘Newcastle look a bit better under Howe but it’s the sort of game you’d be fuming if we dropped points. They’re not good.’

‘Could swear the Newcastle assistant was saying how we were coming to the Emirates to attack us and win, then proceed to park the bus and not create anything really.

Steve Bruce would be proud!’

‘Two great goals, reasonable performance. Newcastle’s defence was well organised, it wasn’t easy to break them down.’

‘Happy to get 3 points and a clean sheet but we have to raise our level against United. Newcastle have literally conceded more goals than any other premier league team. Unless something spectacular in January. I’ll be amazed if they stay up.’

‘A nice and well deserved win but the performance was nothing special against the worst team in the league.’

‘Professional performance, kept calm after the poor first half. We are now consistently beating the dross it seems, which is a really good sign. What Wenger was great at and we were always sniffing around top 4.’
