Arsenal’s ambition in the summer transfer market remains clear: strengthen with intent and improve the depth that might make the difference in a title race. Now, as iNews reports, that plan may involve a bold move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
According to the article, “Arsenal are tracking Gordon and would be eager to snap him up if he became available for transfer.” The Gunners are seeking a wide player to both compete with Gabriel Martinelli and provide relief for Bukayo Saka, and Gordon’s versatility on both flanks fits the mould.
After registering 12 goals and 16 assists across 48 matches in 2023-24, Gordon has proven he can deliver at the highest level, although this campaign has seen his form dip, with no Premier League goal contributions since January. That has done little to dissuade suitors who view him as a player with considerable untapped potential.

Newcastle, under pressure to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, may be forced into difficult decisions. Gordon, valued at £80 million, is one of the club’s most sellable assets. Having signed him from Everton for £45m in January 2023, the Magpies could nearly double their investment if a deal is struck.
The report notes that “Newcastle are open to negotiations for Gordon if they need to sell one big name to ease PSR concerns.” Such a move would not come lightly, especially given Gordon’s prominence in Eddie Howe’s system and his evident popularity at St James’ Park.
Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta now face a valuation dilemma. Is Gordon worth £80m? On paper, his statistical output from last season combined with his Premier League experience and positional flexibility support the argument. Yet the current lull in form will give any suitor pause—especially when value for money is scrutinised with such intensity.
Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring the situation. According to iNews, “Chelsea are also ‘interested’ in Gordon,” particularly as they reassess their options on the left wing with uncertainty around Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Liverpool remain in the mix too, with their long-standing admiration for Gordon well known. The player, born on Merseyside, is reportedly still fond of his boyhood club and could be tempted if they formalise their interest.

TEAMtalk sources claim Gordon is content at Newcastle but would be open to transfer talks, particularly with top-tier clubs. David Ornstein has also verified that Arsenal’s interest is genuine. Yet nothing is straightforward. Newcastle, flush with ambition, won’t let Gordon leave cheaply or without a fight.
This is an intriguing but complex move for Arsenal. On one hand, Gordon represents the kind of high-potential, Premier League-proven signing that fits Arteta’s blueprint. He’s aggressive, agile, has an eye for goal, and would add genuine competition on both wings. His ability to stretch defences and run at full-backs is something Arsenal lacked during critical phases last season.
But is £80m too steep for a player experiencing a dip in form? There’s always risk attached to such large fees, especially with financial fair play rules tightening and other priority positions—like striker—still unresolved.
Then there’s the question of intent. Would Arsenal be paying for potential or proven output? If Arteta and Berta see Gordon as someone they can elevate to the next level, similar to how Ødegaard and White have flourished, then the risk may be justified.
Still, with Liverpool in the shadows and Chelsea always lurking in transfer sagas, the urgency to act quickly and decisively grows stronger. Arsenal fans would welcome Gordon—provided the club doesn’t sacrifice balance elsewhere in pursuit of one high-profile addition.
