Gunners star is within touching distance of record set by Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen
Ethan Nwaneri looks set for an extended run in the Arsenal side as he continues to impress in a breakthrough season.
The 17-year-old has shone on the right wing in Bukayo Saka’s absence and again proved the difference on Saturday, curling in a superb cross for Mikel Merino to head home and send Arsenal on their way to a crucial win over Leicester.
Nwaneri made history when he became the Premier League’s youngest player in 2022, making his debut against Brentford at the age of 15 years and 181 days.
There could be more records to come, but Nwaneri faces a race against time if he is to get the better of Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.
The pair currently hold the record for the most goals scored by a player under the age of 18 for a Premier League side, with nine goals each in all competitions.
Nwaneri has got his name on the scoresheet seven times this season, scoring three times in both the Premier League and Carabao Cup, and once in the Champions League.
It means the teenager must find two goals before his 18th birthday to match Rooney and Owen, or three to hold the record himself.
Nwaneri turns 18 on March 21 and Arsenal play only four times before then. The Gunners host West Ham this weekend, before travelling to take on Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.
The final chance for Nwaneri to add to his tally and potentially break the record will come on March 16, when Arsenal face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
