Arsenal and technical director Edu are ‘resigned’ to only signing a winger in the upcoming winter transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

It was widely reported that the Gunners were eager to snap up another centre-back, central midfielder and wide attacker over the summer despite making several additions to their first-team squad.

Arsenal missed out on Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez to Barcelona and Manchester United, respectively, in the previous transfer window.

The capital club also chose not to make a formal approach for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans after being put off by the Foxes £32 million asking price.

And Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has recently stated that he and his recruitment team will ‘look at everything’ when the transfer market re-opens for business in January.

“With the position that we are in right now, it demands as well another level of player,” Arteta said. “That player has to be available. We will look at everything and let’s see what we can do.”

It remains to be seen if the right player becomes available to Arsenal, but it appears as though they are ready to make a move if they do.

What has Brown said about Arsenal?

Brown has informed GiveMeSport that the north London outfit have accepted that they will only be able to solve one of their problem positions in January.

He said: “That’s the one area that they currently want to strengthen, they did work quite hard to get a midfielder as well in the last window, and that one didn’t come off.

“But it looks like in January, at least, they’re resigned to just going after a winger, if they can get one.”

Who could Arsenal sign?

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of in-demand Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The transfer expert revealed on his YouTube channel that the Emirates Stadium hierarchy had ‘positive’ contact over the summer and that they are ‘still following’ the Ukraine international now.

Shakhtar’s sporting director Carlo Nicolini has since claimed that Mudryk will cost ‘more than Antony’ following his £86m move from Ajax to Manchester United.

That outlay would represent Arsenal’s record-ever purchase, but Mudryk’s outstanding displays in the Champions League this season have shown that he may well be worth the risk.
