Arsenal have indeed made an enquiry for Joaquin Correa but the rumours of a bid are a step too far, according to a report from Sky.

Sky Sport Italia report that with Lazio showing an interest in Lucas Torreira, Arsenal have in turn requested information on Joaquin Correa. At this point, that enquiry hasn’t progressed into any further formal negotiations.

This contradicts other reports from Italy, with Il Messaggero and La Repubblica claiming Arsenal have made a €20m (£17.2m) opening bid for Correa. Calciomercato added Lazio were only willing to entertain a sale for €30m (£25.8m).

According to Sky, Arsenal haven’t yet reached the point of placing a bid. But their report provides further confirmation that the Gunners have at least some interest in the 26-year-old.

Correa managed 11 goals and five assists in 38 appearances this season for Lazio. He’s more of a wide forward or a second striker than a pure centre-forward, so he would likely start out on the left if he joined Arsenal.

You can see why that might appeal to Mikel Arteta, freeing up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to make a permanent return to central areas. For now, a potential move is still in its infancy.
