Arsenal defender Simone Boye Sørensen has completed a move to Swedish club Hammarby IF according to reports on The Gunners’ official club website.

The 30-year-old Danish international joined Arsenal last summer following a spell with German club Bayern Munich but she is now moving on for a different challenge. It has been reported that Sørensen will officially become a Hammarby IF player on 3 August upon the opening of the Swedish transfer window.

Sørensen made 14 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions in her one season in North London, she started just half of those matches. Some of the defender’s best work came in the opening rounds of the UEFA Women’s Champions League as Arsenal successfully reached the group stage.

Five players have now left Arsenal this summer. In addition to Sørensen’s departure, Lisa Evans, Viktoria Schnaderbeck, Halle Houssein and Hermoine Cull have all left the LV Bet Stadium. United States international forward Tobin Heath also left Arsenal prior to the end of the 2021/2022 campaign after sustaining a season-ending injury while defender Anna Patten will spend the 2022/2023 campaign out on loan at Aston Villa.

The Arsenal squad is looking a little light on numbers therefore head coach Jonas Eidevall seems likely to bolster his squad in the coming weeks. Defence could be one area to strengthen with Arsenal having looked shaky at times, especially in European competition.
