Arsenal have grabbed the North London bragging rights after easing to a 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

A record-breaking crowd of 47,367 were in attendance at The Emirates Stadium as The Gunners made easy work of a Spurs side who lacked any kind of attacking ambition over the course of the 90 minutes.

The hosts were ahead inside five minutes when Beth Mead found some space in the box and she curled an effort across goal into the far corner of the Spurs’ net.

Arsenal struggled to build on their early goal. Kim Little fired an effort wide of the near post while Caitlin Foord headed narrowly wide of the far post from a Katie McCabe cross. Visiting keeper Becky Spencer was allowed a relatively quiet period in the Spurs goal but her own side failed to grow into the game and they didn’t really offer any kind of challenge for an equaliser.

Spurs’ lack of attacking spark left their hopes very much in limbo and just before the break they self-destructed, leaving themselves with a mountain to climb. Spencer’s dangerous pass to Eveliina Summanen saw the Finnish international dispossessed on the edge of her own area. Vivianne Miedema was gifted an opportunity to race towards goal and she took her chance, slotting away Arsenal’s second goal of the game.

The Gunners added their third goal early in the second half when a corner kick from the right found Rafaelle Souza who sent a bullet header into the top corner of the Spurs net. Miedema then scored her second goal of the game and Arsenal’s fourth when she headed home after The Gunners had opted for a short corner routine.

There were no further goals in the closing stages as a flurry of substitutions removed some of the flow from the game.

Arsenal have started the season with back-to-back league wins while Spurs must return to the drawing board as they look to better last season’s fifth-place finish.
