After naming the lineup that will likely take the field next Saturday in their Premier League opener against Wolves, Mikel Arteta saw his men continue where they left off against Leverkusen with a quickfire start.

It took just nine minutes for Arsenal to open the scoring, William Saliba rising highest to power home a Declan Rice corner.

Rice continued to be a threat with his delivery, and it was the England man who provided the assist for the Gunners’ second goal, which again from a corner – it appears they have picked up where they left off last season, where they scored a league-high 22 goals (excluding penalties).

This time, it was Gabriel, who proved so prolific last season, who got in on the act, heading home at the back post after Lyon keeper Lucas Perri failed to deal with the ball.

Arsenal continued to dominate the game after the break, making and missing several chances.

The moment the fans had waited for came just after the hour when Riccardo Calafiori made his debut off the bench, coming on for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

As tends to be the case in these friendly games, it slowed down rapidly in the last 20 minutes as both sides rolled on the substitutes.

Nonetheless, it was job done for Arteta, and his side look in fine fettle ahead of the start of their league campaign.
