Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a ‘big fan’ of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and a deal to take him to the Emirates Stadium ‘would be easy to pull off’, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners only have one striker on their books, with that being Eddie Nketiah, but Arteta is keen to double his options by luring Jesus to north London.

What’s the latest news involving Jesus?

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are continuing to work on a deal for Jesus and negotiations are at a very advanced stage.

Romano suggests the Gunners will need to move quickly in order to ensure they win the race for the 56-cap Brazil international as Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are waiting in the wings and ready to pounce.

It seems Jesus has been a long-term target as technical director Edu has been holding discussions with his representatives for a number of months while exploring the possibility of sealing the striker’s arrival.

However, Arsenal will have to spend big if they want to make Jesus their latest signing as Manchester City value him at £50million.

That is despite the 25-year-old being set to enter the final 12 months of his £91,000-per-week contract at the Etihad Stadium.

What has Paul Brown said about Jesus?

Brown believes Arsenal could succeed in their pursuit of Jesus, particularly thanks to Arteta knowing the frontman well.

However, the journalist warns the Gunners may not have come to the final decision on Jesus being their priority target.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think Arsenal have genuinely made a decision yet on who their top choice striker is. I think they’ve put feelers out to a number of clubs on a number of players and want to see how the land lies and what sort of fees they’d have to pay for some of these people.

“By the same token, I think Jesus is waiting to see what kind of offers he gets because there are a whole load of clubs interested in him.

“Obviously, he’s played for Mikel Arteta and the two know each other well. Arteta’s still a big fan and he also knows Edu, in the Arsenal set-up, really well.

“If they get the green light for it, I think it would be an easy one to pull off, but I think both sides are still waiting to see what else happens in the market before deciding on that.”

Why is Jesus of interest to Arsenal?

Arteta forged a positive relationship with Jesus during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City.

He will be aware that the Brazilian would bring goals to north London, shown by the fact the striker has found the back of the net 116 times over the course of his club career.

Jesus does not only offer goals though, which is emphasised by him averaging more assists per 90 minutes than Nketiah last term.
