Any early interest in Cody Gakpo from Arsenal has since cooled, with Manchester United more likely to sign the winger now.

Arsenal have been linked with Cody Gakpo by the Dutch media fairly regularly, but reports of interest were never followed up with anything more serious.

Jacque Talbot reports that the winger was looked at by Arsenal earlier this month, but their interest cooled.

With Arsenal pulling out of the race, Manchester United are now the most likely to sign the winger – Erik ten Hag’s third choice for the position.

Other Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the €40m man, but it seems Arsenal won’t be one of them.

Reports suggest PSV won’t let Gakpo leave until after their Champions League qualifiers anyway. Having overcome AS Monaco in the previous round, they now face a two-legged tie against Rangers on August 16th and 24th to make the group stage.

If PSV make it into the Champions League, you’d imagine that would hurt Manchester United’s chances of signing him, as they don’t have Champions League football.

But Gakpo is keen to play in the Premier League, and his priority is regular minutes ahead of the World Cup.

The 23-year-old left-winger scored 21 goals and assisted 15 in 47 appearances last season. Though you never know how that form will translate from the Eredivisie to English football.
