Arsenal consider ‘bargain’ deal for midfielder but face competition from Man Utd and Newcastle | OneFootball

Ben Jacobs has provided the latest update on Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans as he enters the final months of his contract.

The Belgian midfielder has looked likely to leave Leicester at the end of the season for quite some time now as he has been reluctant to sign a new deal.

, but none of them were willing to match Leicester’s asking price.

With his deal now set to expire at the end of the season, several Premier League clubs are considering a free transfer for the midfielder in the summer.

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have been admirers of Tielemans for quite some time, but they are not alone in their interest of the midfielder.

“Youri Tielemans is also expected to leave Leicester this summer on a free transfer, barring a U-turn on signing a new deal,” Jacobs explained via Caught Offside.

“Leicester would love to keep him, but Tielemans has been clear for over a year he doesn’t want to extend.

“Arsenal still haven’t ruled out signing him on a free transfer. They were reluctant to pay a transfer fee over the past two windows, but now the Belgian midfielder is a bargain.

“Newcastle also really like Tielemans and Manchester United are one to watch as well.”

The Belgian midfielder remains to be an important player for Leicester as he has started in the majority of their Premier League games this season.

When asked about Tielemans contract situation in January, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers provided an interesting update.

“(Contracts) are something that will be a club discussion,” he told reporters. “If someone doesn’t want to be here, or someone wants too much money to be here, we have to be brave enough to say: ‘Thank you very much and on you go.’

“We’re not a club with masses of resources that can facilitate every single player’s need, especially from a financial side.

“A number of these guys are down on their last year, we’ve said before that we’d like them to stay, but there has to be a point in time where if what they want is too demanding for us as a club, and if the time is right, that they have to move on.

“We have to do that and then look forward.”
