Arsenal have confirmed that defender Jurriën Timber has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee which will keep him out for a long period.
The 22-year-old had to be withdrawn just 50 minutes into the Premier League debut in the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday after picking up the knock.
And it has been confirmed the £38m arrival from Ajax is now likely to be on the sidelines for some time after the Gunners confirmed their worst fears around the injury.
“Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurriën Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” a club statement read.
“Jurriën will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for a period of time.”
Timber will now face a race against time to be fit for Euro 2024 next summer should the Netherlands qualify.
