Arsenal complete signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos

Arsenal have completed their third summer signing with the arrival of Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Sokratis joins the club on a ‘long-term contract’ for a reported €20m from Borussia Dortmund, where he spent the last five seasons.

It’s believed that a deal was completed last month but delayed due to Dortmund wanting to list their finances on a new tax quarter.

“Arsenal is one of the three biggest teams in the Premier League and one very big club,” he told the club’s official website.

“It has a lot of fans and a very big history. Like I said before, I’m very happy that for the next years I will be here to help the team.”

Sokratis will wear the number 5 shirt and is expected to compete with Shkodran Mustafi for a starting berth.
