Arsenal are looking for a new second-choice goalkeeper following the departure of Petr Cech.

With the legendary stopper hanging up his gloves, the Gunners are on the hunt for someone to understudy Bernd Leno. And they may have found him.

According to the Independent, the club are now closing in on a deal to sign Markus Schubert.

The goalkeeper, who turned 21 this week, is available for free after his Dynamo Dresden contract expired.

Schubert played 31 times in the 2. Bundesliga last season, keeping nine clean sheets.

A Germany youth international, Schubert has been linked with a host of Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich.

The report claims Arsenal are ready to loan Schubert out next season.

A spell away from north London would see him continue his development with regular first team football before returning to challenge for Leno’s place.
