Martin Ødegaard has decided to join Arsenal for the rest of this season despite interest from Real Sociedad.
That’s according to several Spanish outlets, who insist that the young playmaker will join the north London side before the January transfer window closes.
Earlier this week Ødegaard asked Real Madrid for permission to go out on loan after falling down the pecking order at Santiago Bernabéu.
That request was been granted and Arsenal and La Real were just two of the clubs to make their interest known.
Real Sociedad were believed to be in the driving seat having already helped rehabilitate the Norwegian’s reputation in 2019/20.
Ødegaard was widely regarded as the best player in Spain during his season-long spell with the Basque side and was supposed to stay for this current campaign as well, before Real Madrid recalled him early from a two-year loan.
Reports from Spain on Wednesday suggested that Real Sociedad were confident they could re-sign the 22-year-old but several outlets now say that is not the case.
Spanish sports daily AS and reliable Basque papers Diario Vasco and El Confidencial claim that Ødegaard has decided to test his skills in a different league and will join Mikel Arteta’s side for the remainder of this season.
Ødegaard will join Dani Ceballos as the second Real Madrid man at the Emirates.
