When Arsenal paid an initial £24 million to sign goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer, a lot of fans were sceptical.
Ramsdale had been relegated in two consecutive seasons for Bournemouth and Sheffield United and didn’t appear to have the quality to play for Arsenal.
He started the season on the bench behind Bernd Leno for the club’s two opening matches of the season. And that was probably for the best as the Gunners conceded seven goals in defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City.

But Ramsdale was soon given his opportunity – and he’s taken it with both hands. He’s established himself as Arsenal’s No.1 following a series of incredible performances.
It’s not just his goalkeeping ability that has seen him become a bit of a hero amongst Gooners. His passion and personality during – and after – matches have adhered him to supporters.
And his role in a recent advert will only increase his standing with the fans.
Arsenal have produced an advert for a local chip shop on Holloway Road – Chip Inn Fish Bar. The club have put on a number of initiatives to help local business that have struggled throughout the global pandemic.
This time, it’s Chip Inn Fish Bar near the Emirates Stadium.
Starring is Ramsdale as he goes in and asks for large chips. Suddenly, everyone around him starts going ‘Ooooooh’ with a cameo from legendary goalkeeper David Seaman.
It soon becomes clear they’re replicated the ‘Ooooooh’ that many rival fans do when an opposition goalkeeper is taking a goal kick before shouting ‘you’re s**t ahhhhh.’
Ramsdale went viral earlier this season for his reaction to Leicester fans doing exactly to him.
But instead of everyone in the Chip Shop shouting ‘you’re s**t ahhhhh’ at Ramsdale, they shout ‘your chips ahhhhh’ after he was given his order.
Brilliant.
At the end of the advert, Seaman then places his order but decides against going for the chips!
Fans on social media are absolutely loving the advert – and the opportunity to help a local business.
