Real Madrid are reportedly looking to force their way into the transfer race for one of Arsenal’s defensive targets, according to Madrid Zone on X.
Despite already securing Cristhian Mosquera this summer, Arsenal are still believed to be keen on adding another defender to bolster their squad.
Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. While nothing concrete has materialised, and some reports suggest he even turned down an approach from the Gunners, he remains a player worth monitoring.
Jacquet has been labelled the “next William Saliba.” Like the Arsenal man, he is composed in possession and confident carrying the ball out from the back. Coming from the same area in Paris, Bondy, the comparisons have left many observers stunned by their similarities.
Arsenal had hoped Jacquet might follow a similar path to Saliba, but their efforts were allegedly rebuffed. Even so, the Gunners remain interested, which is why the latest developments in Spain will not have gone unnoticed. The report claims Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Jacquet, though they face strong competition from Arsenal, who have already registered their interest.

Jacquet spent the first half of last season on loan at Clermont, impressing enough for Rennes to recall him in the winter. Back in Ligue 1, he showcased his versatility, switching between right back and centre back in 11 league appearances.
Given his stylistic resemblance to Saliba, Jacquet would offer ideal rotation for Arsenal’s No. 2. He could provide cover in positions currently occupied by Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko. With Saliba needing careful management to avoid burnout, the chance to learn from one of the Premier League’s finest defenders would also have been invaluable for the 20-year-old’s development.
For now, however, this remains a wait-and-see transfer scenario as Arsenal and Madrid weigh their options.
Thoughts Gooners?
