Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wins Premier League Manager of the Month award for January | OneFootball

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has won the Premier League Manager of the Month Award for January 2023.

It is his third award of the campaign after another superb run of results in the first month of the new year. The Spaniard won it in August and in November/December 2022.

Arteta beat Steve Cooper, Roberto De Zerbi, Unai Emery and Thomas Frank to the award. He is only two awards shy of Jurgen Klopp’s record of five in a single season in the 2019/20 campaign.

Arsenal took seven points out of a possible nine in their January league fixtures. They first drew against Newcastle United at the beginning of the month.

Subsequent victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United helped the Gunners retain their five-point lead at the top of the league table.

After taking his award, Arteta reflected on his side’s restart following the 2022 World Cup.

He said (via the club’s website): “After the World Cup break, you have certain questions – how is the team going to react, are we ready, and have we lost that momentum?

“I don’t think we did. I think we used that time really well. We were lucky not to have some big problems in that period, and the team responded by winning a lot of games.

“It’s difficult to choose the best moment because we had some big ones, but obviously the game that we won away at Spurs was a key one.”

Arteta has won the Manager of the Month Award five times in his three-year stay at the club. The 40-year-old is ahead of Jose Mourinho, who won it four times.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford won the Premier League Player of the Month Award.
