Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta delivers injury update on Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba | OneFootball

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has disclosed the injury status of defensive duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Spaniard does not think he will have either centre-back available for their trip to Tyneside to face Newcastle United this weekend.

At his pre-match press conference, the Arsenal boss said on Gabriel (via Arsenal’s official website): “We will have to see tomorrow how he is.

“But he could not finish the game [against Chelsea], so that was obviously a big sign for us, and we will have to see how he is tomorrow.”

On Saliba, Arteta added: “He is feeling better every single day, but he is still not been able to have any activity around the first team, so we don’t expect him to be with us (at Newcastle).”

Saliba has been out since Arsenal’s elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Sporting CP.

The Frenchman went off in the early minutes of that game on March 9, and there has been plenty of mystery around his back injury.

Many people expected him to return in three weeks, but he is still unavailable.

Saliba’s absence has coincided with a mini-slump for Arsenal. Manchester City have taken their place at the summit and are favourites for the title.
