Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that he has plenty of respect for latest opponents FC Zürich and that their performances in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League have been better than results have suggested.

The Gunners have travelled to Schaffhausen for their final group stage match. Arsenal are already through to the quarter-finals but there is still all to play for with the North Londoners battling Lyon for top spot.

FC Zürich have lost five out of five in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage but Arsenal boss Eidevall isn’t writing the Swiss side off ahead of this evening’s meeting at the Wefox Arena.

“Their results maybe tell another story than their performances,” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “I think we’ve seen, both against Lyon and Juventus, that they’ve created some really, really good opportunities in those games.

“They’re a tactically flexible team – they can play with two forwards or they can play with one forward. A lot of the time, that changes between which phase they’re in.

“It’s an opponent we have a lot of respect for, especially here at their home ground – the artificial turf. We need to make a strong performance in order to get the result we want.”

Arsenal attacker Vivianne Miedema sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury against Lyon on Matchday 5. That injury has brought an end to the player’s season and Eidevall went on to say that Miedema has the club’s full support.

He said “I think a serious injury is always very hard on any player, of course it is. The important thing is to give the player every support she needs – both mentally and physically – so that she can feel that she’s in the best hands in order to recover and return back to the pitch again as strong as possible. That’s our main focus with Viv and with our other injured players.”

Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture against FC Zürich kicks-off at 5.45pm.
