Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that he is expecting another tough test for his side against an Ajax team who are full of confidence.

The Gunners have travelled to Amsterdam for the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2 tie. The two sides battled to a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the LV Bet Stadium in Boreham Wood last week.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that he expects opponents Ajax to again be full of confidence after an impressive showing in the first leg.

“I thought they played with a lot of confidence when we played them last week,” Eidevall said. “I’m under no illusion that this game will be anything else. It will be a hard game, we will need to be very good.

“Away games in Europe are tough, especially when we’re playing against a good team like Ajax. We will need to be good in all aspects of the game – we will need to defend well, we will need to attack well, we need to be good at set pieces and good in transition.

“It’s up to us to be the best that we possibly can be and if we can be that, I believe we can go through. It’s up to us to reach that level.”

Eidevall went on to say that qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s group stage is hugely important but he is not thinking about any other matters such as the financial implications of not reaching the last-16.

He said “Of course, we want to play in the group stage of the Champions League, we want to go as far as possible. This is the game we need to win in order to get there so of course, it’s very important.

“I just want to win the game. I don’t spend much time thinking about other things (such as the financial implications of not qualifying) and I don’t think I should do either. I went into this game to prepare for us to get the best possibilities to win and I believe that we will win. I don’t think about anything else.”

Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2, second leg tie against Ajax kicks-off at 6pm on Wednesday evening.
