According to Daily Mail, Arsenal have stopped their pursuit of bringing in Moises Caicedo after Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly deny to sell him in the current transfer window. It is understood that Mikel Arteta was more than keen on getting the Ecuador international’s signature before deadline day but the Gunners saw several bids rejected from the Seagulls which has forced the North London outfit to recruit Chelsea’s Jorginho in the process.

Caicedo’s Impressive Numbers In The Premier League This Season

Caicedo has had a brilliant campaign with the Seagulls so far as he has put in some influential displays defensively in the middle of the park. The Ecuadorian midfielder has found the back of the net on one occasion and picked up an assist over eighteen appearances for his side so far this season.

The Santo Domingo-born sensation has been reliable and consistent in the holding midfield positions as he has averaged 2.9 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.6 long balls and 1.1 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has also been accurate when distributing possession to his teammates after completing 87.9% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

Will Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Target Him In The Summer Transfer Window?

Caicedo has a solid presence in the midfield areas; as he can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back for his side and doesn’t mind putting his foot through a tackle. He is adept at marking the opposition attackers and does well to shield the backline. Caicedo can surprisingly dominate his opponents in aerial duels despite being shorter than most of the players in his position.

However, the Seagulls are reluctant to let their prized asset leave in the middle of the season which makes sense as they are heavily reliant on him to help them challenge for a place in the European qualification spots.

Arsenal boss has been wise to stop his pursuit and look for other suitable alternatives in the market as Jorginho looks to complete his medical and join the squad. The Gunners already boast a talented midfield department but the Spanish tactician could be willing to reignite his interests in the next transfer window as Caicedo would be a decent long-term option at the Emirates Stadium.
