In a recent report, Milan Live revealed that Arsenal are leading the race for Sporting CP centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer. It is believed that the Gunners are prepared to launch a €100m offer for the Swedish striker in the upcoming transfer window.

Gyokeres’ Impressive Run Of Form In Liga Portugal

Gyokeres is having an excellent campaign in Portuguese football as he has banged in plenty of important goals for Sporting in the final third. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net 33 times and picked up 13 assists in 38 appearances for his current employers this season in multiple competitions.

The Swedish talent has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 3.2 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. However, he needs to improve his link-up up top after making 74.4% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to snap him up on the cheap at the end of this season.

What Will Gyokeres Bring To Arsenal?

Gyokeres is proficient at creating some space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in Portuguese football this season and can even orchestrate some inviting chances for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

The Sweden international is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a winger on either flank if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring a lot of firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s frontline.

At 25, Gyokeres has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the North London club‘s needs this summer. Arteta can undoubtedly benefit from adding a natural goal-scorer like the Swede to his squad ahead of the new campaign. However, it remains to be seen whether Gyokeres can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal manage to get him on board later this year.
