In a recent report, journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are facing stiff competition in the form of Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion in pursuit of the English talent this summer.

Gray enjoyed a solid campaign at Elland Road as he managed to put in a string of decent performances at the heart of Leeds’ midfield. The 18-year-old was involved in 52 matches for the Whites last season, netting one goal and securing two assists in all competitions.

The Durham-born midfield ace has managed to catch the eye at times in the middle of the park and has done well to average 2.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.6 clearances and 1.0 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the West Yorkshire club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Snap Gray Up This Summer?

Gray is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well and can make a few important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can make some energetic runs with the ball from midfield.

The gifted starlet is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a holding midfielder or as a right-back if told to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.

We can expect Gray to bring more energy and depth to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.

At 18, Gray has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, the Gunners would be wise to try everything they can to snap him up before the start of the new campaign.
