Arsenal and Manchester City are both considering a summer move for Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, according to a report.

Sam Dean reports for The Telegraph that both Arsenal and Manchester City have made Bruno Guimaraes aware of their interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Both clubs are considering a summer move, which could mean a repeat of last year’s transfer battle for Declan Rice.

Dean adds that Guimaraes is thought to have a release clause of around £100m, but that wouldn’t prevent clubs trying to strike a deal at a lower price, and Arsenal are certainly looking to strengthen their midfield.

From Newcastle’s point of view, the report concludes that they’re hoping to hold onto their best players for at least another year, and Guimaraes has recently bought a new house in the area.

Ben Jacobs reported for 90min earlier this week that Arsenal are interested in the Brazilian midfielder, along with Manchester City and PSG.

Jacobs added that Newcastle would love to keep Guimaraes at the club, but he has a £100m release clause, and there is also a verbal agreement in place for the midfielder to be allowed to talk to Champions League clubs.

Their agreement also means that Newcastle will engage with offers over £80m, even if they don’t reach the £100m mark.

Football insider Team News and Ticks then confirmed that Arsenal have made contact with multiple targets or their clubs in the last week, to see if a summer deal is possible, and Guimaraes is on that list.

These updates come in the wake of David Ornstein’s claim last week that Arsenal really like Guimaraes as a player and a potential signing.

Arsenal were reportedly genuinely interested in signing Guimaraes even before he joined Newcastle United. Various sources claimed in 2022 that whilst the club never made a formal offer, they did like the player, they just preferred other targets at the time.
