Arsenal are reportedly among the Premier League clubs showing interest in Bayern Munich’s defensive midfielder João Palhinha, according to German journalist Christian Falk writing for CF Bayern Insider. The report states Bayern are prepared to sell the Portugal international this summer, with a move potentially materialising for as little as €25 million to €30 million.
Falk explains that “there’s still the possibility of selling him this summer, the price is going down and down – €25m [£21.6m], perhaps €30m [£25.9m]”, indicating Bayern’s readiness to part ways. Palhinha, who joined from Fulham last summer for around €56 million, reportedly remains open to staying at Allianz Arena but understands that his future could depend on suitable offers arriving.
Arsenal reportedly made a concrete approach for João Palhinha, and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the situation. Both clubs, having secured Champions League football for next season, could fit the profile of suitors capable of meeting Bayern’s reduced valuation.
Palhinha’s Premier League credentials are well established. He starred in Fulham’s midfield over two seasons, earning plaudits for his tackling, leadership and performance control. Though his initial campaign at Bayern was affected by fitness and limited minutes, the 30-year-old still retains considerable experience and is viewed as a world‑class centre‑midfielder by many.

For Arsenal, who have recently signed Martin Zubimendi and Christian Nørgaard, Palhinha would bring a different profile, a powerful, experienced ball‑winner to complement those younger players. His height, aerial ability and aggressive tackling style would add steel and cover in front of the back four.
That said, his age and injury record must be considered. Bayern’s preference is to invest in younger midfielders and that Palhinha’s own preference is to stay, but he would consider a move if the price is right and opportunities are clear.
There is no formal bid on the table yet, but Arsenal could be preparing to make a move should Bayern remain open to sale. It now appears to be a question of timing and valuation. Palhinha himself is reportedly ready to listen if a deal aligns with his career goals.
What are your thoughts on Palhinha?
