Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema has ended speculation about her immediate future by agreeing a new contract with the club.

The Gunners announced the news this morning via an update on their official club website. Miedema follows head coach Jonas Eidevall and teammates Steph Catley and Noelle Maritz in signing on again with the North Londoners this summer. Full terms of Miedema’s new deal have been left undisclosed by Arsenal in-line with their club policy.

Miedema joined Arsenal in May 2017 and the player has gone on to establish herself as one of the club’s all-time greats. She netted her 100th goal for The Gunners in September last year while the forward completed a century of Barclays FA Women’s Super League goal involvements just a couple of months ago, becoming the first player to do so. Miedema will now have her eyes set on reaching new heights after signing her new deal.

Speaking after agreeing her contract extension, Miedema said “I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around.

“I do feel like I have got that at Arsenal. I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. That’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.”

Miedema had been strongly linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer with European champions FC Barcelona being a possible destination but she has now ended those rumours by committing her future to her current club, something which will delight the fans.
