Lazio are on the right track to sign Nuno Tavares as Arsenal have reportedly accepted their offer for the Portuguese outcast.
The Biancocelesti have been searching the market for a new full-back and had been heavily linked with a move for Hellas Verona left-back Juan Cabal over the past few weeks. But in recent days, Tavares has suddenly emerged as a genuine candidate to join Marco Baroni’s ranks.
The Serie A club has now made significant progress in its attempts to sign the Arsenal star.
According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have now accepted Lazio’s offer for Tavares. The Aquile would thus sign the Portugueses on loan with an obligation to buy worth €7/8 million, with the North Londoners also having a sell-on fee clause in their favour. Romano further adds that Lazio must now find an agreement with the player and his entourage over personal terms.
Italian transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio also reports a similar story. The source quotes Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani saying that he is confident about reaching a full agreement with both Arsenal and Tavares. Moreover, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà claims that Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi played a decisive role in convincing his former Olympique de Marseille teammate to join him in the Italian capital.
Tavares has been on Arsenal’s books since making the move from Benfica in 2021. However, he spent the last two campaigns on loan at Marseille and Nottingham Forest. His contract with the Gunners will expire next summer.
