Former Arsenal youngster Sydie Peck made his debut for Sheffield United on Saturday, coming off the bench during their win over Brentford.

19-year-old Sydie Peck came off the bench for Sheffield United as they recorded a rare Premier League victory over Brentford this weekend, making his debut for the club.

Peck’s name might ring a bell for Arsenal fans, as he spent over a decade with the Gunners before moving on to Sheffield.

The midfielder ended up leaving the Gunners in 2021, and he suggested the decision to depart was his.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Arsenal football club for my development over the last 11 years,” Peck wrote in 2021.

“Due to certain circumstances that unfolded I have decided to leave.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and guidance from everyone at the club, and all the coaches and medical team who have played an important role in my development over the years and especially making it a brilliant journey for me which has made me a better person and a better player.

“I wish everyone at the club the best for the future. I’m excited for what the future holds.”

A couple of years later, it seems the move is starting to pay off for Peck, who has now made a Premier League debut in his teenage years.

Peck was highly rated in his age group at Arsenal as a younger player, though his final campaign was disrupted by injury.

Given those injury struggles, perhaps Peck felt he would have a better chance at regular football by dropping down the divisions. At the time, Sheffield United were a Championship club.

The injuries haven’t entirely disappeared, with the youngster requiring knee surgery over the summer, and Peck has ironically made his breakthrough after his new club’s promotion back to the Premier League. He’ll now look to push on.
