Arsenal transfer target Mykhalo Mudryk is seemingly “pushing” for a move to the Emirates although his form is likely to attract even greater attention, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

What’s the latest on Mudryk’s future?

Reports during the summer transfer window claimed the Shakhtar Donetsk star was a target for the Gunners as they looked to make a late signing.

Indeed, before deadline day, Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that the Gunners did in fact look at a potential move for the winger.

He said: “I think this is the problem there is going to be, he is super expensive. Arsenal explored this possibility, and they had contact with his agent last week.”

What did O’Rourke say about Mudryk and Arsenal?

And now, amid comments from Mudryk himself recently that he wouldn’t say no to a move to the Gunners in January, O’Rourke has delivered his take on the situation.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Well seemingly the player is pushing for this move to Arsenal with the comments that he has made.

“He’s obviously a very talented player. It was a complicated deal to do in the summer and that’s why he remained at Shakhtar Donetsk. There were a lot of clubs interested in him, and the way he has performed so far this season, it will bring even more clubs to the table.”

Mudryk would be exciting signing for Arteta and Arsenal

Speaking back in August, the Ukrainian side’s sporting director, Darijo Srna, declared: “For me, Mudryk is the best player in Europe in this position after Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

“As I said, after Mbappe and Junior, I don’t see a third player other than Mudryk in this position in Europe. First, he is a decent guy. Second, professional. Thirdly, he loves Shakhtar. Yes, he said he wanted to leave, but now he is in his place and remains in the team. Mudryk has crazy potential.

“The market makes the price. If today’s Mudryk played at Ajax, then €100m (£86m) would be asked for him.”

Given the Gunners’ impressive start to the Premier League season thus far – they currently lead the way at the top of the table – bringing in some January reinforcements would go a long way to giving that extra boost heading into the second half of the season.

The north London side saw first hand what a lack of depth can do when injuries begin to take their toll, with the Gunners letting slip a Champions League place from their grasp in the final few weeks of the season last term.

Bringing in a bona-fide star like Mudryk would be an impressive statement of ambition that Arsenal are prepared to last the full course this time around.
