Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk’s price tag has not been reduced by Shakhtar Donetsk but he could still offer good value for money at the Emirates Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners spent more than £110million during the summer, as per Transfermarkt, but boss Mikel Arteta will be handed another opportunity to splash the cash during the January window.

Arsenal transfer news – Mykhaylo Mudryk

In a major development, the Mirror have revealed that Arsenal are in pole position to win the race for Mudryk’s services and Shakhtar are now willing to entertain bids worth £40million plus potential add-ons.

It comes after The Athletic previously reported it would take upwards of £86million to lure the winger away from his current employers due to gaining additional interest from Manchester City, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain, Brentford, Everton and Bayer Leverkusen.

But that figure did not go down well with Mudryk, who told Ukrainian media outlet Sport Arena that he is ‘shocked’ by Shakhtar’s valuation and feels the hefty price tag will deter top European clubs from opening negotiations.

Arsenal have already looked to steal a march on the 21-year-old’s other suitors as respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the north Londoners held ‘very positive contacts’ with their target’s representatives during the summer.

It appears a move to the capital is of interest to Mudryk as, during an interview with CBS Sports, he admitted he ‘can’t say no’ to a January switch to the Emirates Stadium.

What has Dean Jones said about Mudryk?

Jones understands that Shakhtar are not willing to accept a proposal worth £40million, contrary to reports.

However, the journalist feels Arsenal could succeed in agreeing a fee by putting a £60million proposal on the table.

When asked whether Shakhtar’s asking price for Mudryk has been reduced, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s no reason for that to happen and I’m told it’s probably not true.

“But even if it was around £60million, I still think this deal would hold good value.”

Would Mudryk be a good signing for Arsenal?

Mudryk has already chalked up 18 goal contributions in as many appearances this season, according to Transfermarkt, and that shows how much of a threat he is in the final third of the pitch.

Statistics also show that the eight-cap Ukraine international could offer even more than current Arsenal wide-men Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

That is because, as per FBref, Mudryk has averaged a greater number of goals and assists per 90 minutes since the campaign got underway.

He has also shown that he is capable of making an impact in Europe’s elite club competition by getting his name on the scoresheet every 173 minutes in the Champions League group stage, according to SofaScore.

Arsenal may be five points clear at the top of the Premier League, but there is no doubt that Mudryk would give Arteta’s side an exciting attacking dimension.
