Arsenal’s reported interest in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane is an ‘indication of where they are’ as a club, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Gunners are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, and a player as talented and successful as Sane may have previously been out of their reach.

Arsenal transfer news – Leroy Sane

90min have claimed that Arsenal have made an enquiry regarding the Germany international following his slight drop in playing time at the Allianz Arena.

The arrival of Sadio Mane over the summer and emergence of Jamal Musiala has seen Sane start just eight Bundesliga games so far this season.

However, it’s believed that Bayern have ‘shunned’ Arsenal’s approach for the pacey attacker as manager Julian Nagelsmann is eager to retain his services.

Sane made the switch to the Bavarian giants from Manchester City back in 2020 after completing a £55 million move but has struggled to find his best form on a consistent basis.

With two-and-a-half-years left to run on his current contract, though, Bayern are in a strong position around the negotiating table at this moment in time.

What has Bridge said about Sane?

Bridge admitted to GiveMeSport that he has ‘not heard anything’ regarding the links but that they are a good sign as far as Arsenal are concerned.

He said: “It’s not something I’ve heard of, or I’ve not heard anything with those links, but I think for you to even mention him regarding Arsenal is maybe an indication of where they are at the moment as a football club and how things are.

“In May it was about how Arsenal bottled it, Tottenham have got top four, Arsenal have finished fifth.

“But I went on their pre-season tour of Orlando, and I have to be honest, they did look good, and people were saying, ‘oh it’s only pre-season’, and I thought, ‘well, they’ve got all their players in already, and if they hit the ground running, I think they could have a good season.’ And they completely hit the ground running.”

Would Sane be a good signing?

Sane excelled throughout his four-year stay with City, registering 39 goals and 46 assists in 135 appearances, claiming two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups.

For Bayern, the 6 foot ace has found the back of the net on 34 occasions in 108 outings, setting up a further 33 strikes for his teammates, meaning he could be a good alternative to Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Two Bundesliga titles, a FIFA Club World Cup crown, and the UEFA Super Cup have also been added to Sane’s trophy collection, establishing him as one of the most feared wingers in the world.

Mikel Arteta will know Sane well from their time at the Etihad Stadium together, and a reunion at Arsenal could elevate the capital club to new heights.
