Arsenal star Kieran Tierney's future 'is going to be up in the air' and talks will be held over how he fits into Mikel Arteta's plans at the Emirates Stadium, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Although the Gunners signed Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Jorginho last month, further incomings and outgoings are likely to be sanctioned during the summer window.

The report suggests the Magpies have set their sights on landing the Scotland international as they look to bolster their options on the left-hand side of their defence.

Tierney has been on Arsenal's books since completing a £25million switch from boyhood club Celtic in August 2019, but it appears he could be on his way out of north London in the not-too-distant future.

Respected journalist Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Arteta will have to decide whether to 'stick or twist' after Newcastle have started monitoring the 25-year-old, while a loan move should not be considered.

Tierney still has just shy of three-and-a-half years remaining on his £110,000-per-week contract, leaving Arsenal in a strong negotiating position ahead of the transfer window reopening for business.

What has Dean Jones said about Tierney?

Jones believes Tierney's long-term future is uncertain at this stage and discussions will be held over whether he remains in Arteta's plans.

The transfer insider feels the Scotsman offers the Gunners a completely different option to fellow left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, who made the £32million move from Manchester City last summer.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "I definitely think his future is going to be up in the air and there's a conversation to be had about what he wants next and how he fits in at Arsenal.

"He is not a like for like with Zinchenko and there are a lot of differences there."

Should Arsenal sell Tierney in the summer?

Tierney has been limited to just four Premier League starts this season, according to Transfermarkt, with his most recent coming during the Boxing Day win over West Ham United.

It is clear that the addition of Zinchenko, a four-time Premier League title winner, has resulted in the Douglas-born star being made to settle for far less game-time than he would have liked.

Considering Tierney has fallen down the pecking order and the fact he has missed close to 50 matches due to various injury problems during his time on Arsenal's books, a lucrative offer should be considered.

But there is no doubt that the full-back, who has chalked up 18 goal contributions in 112 appearances, would be sorely missed in north London.

Tierney, who has been handed an average domestic match rating of 6.24 by WhoScored this season, has been a wonderful servant.
