Arsenal target Moises Caicedo has had his head turned by interest from the Gunners and their London rivals Chelsea, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has told GiveMeSport.

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has been the subject of bids from both clubs, with the former being the ones who are really pushing for him right now.

Arsenal transfer news – Moises Caicedo

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have made two offers for Caicedo, with the latest being worth £70m, £40m more than his £30m CIES valuation.

Before that, Romano reported that the north London club had a £60m proposal for the 21-year-old rejected by Brighton.

The above comes after Chelsea initially tried to sign him earlier in the window.

According to The Athletic, they made a £55m bid for Caicedo, which Brighton quickly knocked back.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Moises Caicedo and Arsenal?

Sheth says Caicedo’s head has been turned but thinks Brighton will be understanding of the situation.

Speaking to GMS, the Sky Sports reporter said: “They appreciate that he has had his head turned and they can probably understand why because this is a team that’s top of the league. This is Chelsea as well, a big club, but Brighton have got their own ambitions.

“They could make history themselves, so I just think that Brighton have every right to do what they’re doing.”

Why are Brighton so reluctant to let Moises Caicedo go?

As Sheth mentioned, Brighton have their own aims this season and Caicedo is one of their best players.

No footballer in the Seagulls’ squad is currently making more tackles per Premier League game than the Ecuadorian (2.9), according to WhoScored. He also performed well in that area last term, recording an average of two.

You also have to acknowledge the fact that Brighton are under no pressure to sell Caicedo. His contract does not expire until 2025.

In the next transfer window, perhaps the south coast club’s stance will soften. It will not be the middle of the season and they will have time to find an adequate replacement.

Ideally, though, Arsenal would obviously love to sign a midfielder like the Ecuador international now. Mikel Arteta is trying to bring the Premier League title to the Emirates and could probably do with someone who can play in the engine room arriving after losing Mohamed Elneny to injury.
