Albert Sambi Lokonga is expecting to leave Arsenal this summer, following discussions with the club about his future.

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga spent the season out on loan with Luton Town, playing 19 times amid a couple of injury setbacks.

Despite those spells out through injury, Lokonga was back in the team by the end of the season, making five consecutive starts in the final month and putting in some strong performances.

The 24-year-old now needs to decide what’s next for him, and he says he’s already spoken to Arsenal about that very topic.

“For me, I had a discussion with Arsenal and the conclusion was the best thing for me was to leave the club,” Lokonga admitted to BBC radio (via Luton Today). “So now it’s up to my agent and the club to find something.

“I still have a contact there, one year plus a one year option so let’s see what happens.”

On his time with Luton, Lokonga added: “I will be back here for sure.

“If I’m not playing for Luton I will come for sure to see the guys because I think this was the best decision of my life to come here, to play for this club and I thank Rob (Edwards) for inviting me to join him and be on this journey.”

Fabrizio Romano reports for his Daily Briefing that Arsenal are open to both loan and permanent offers for Lokonga this summer, based on the fee and the player’s own preference.

Arsenal want to sign a new midfielder this summer, with a number of players already in Lokonga’s position, so the Belgian international is expected to make way.
