Arsenal loaned 22-year-old winger Marquinhos to Cruzeiro at the start of 2025, with the deal set to last until the end of the calendar year. Yet the agreement included a purchase clause, so there was always a possibility the Brazilian youngster could leave permanently.
Initially, Cruzeiro seemed hesitant to activate that clause, following a change in manager. But further talks with Arsenal led to a new agreement, and the Serie A side decided to make the deal permanent.
Both Arsenal and Cruzeiro have now confirmed that the transfer is official, with Marquinhos joining his new club on a deal to 2028.

Simon Collings previously reported for The Standard that Arsenal will receive a fee of £2.5m for Marquinhos’ sale, and the deal also includes a sell-on clause.
Arsenal will be wishing the player all the best with his new club, not just on a personal level, but also because a future transfer would see the Gunners banking some additional cash.
Marquinhos has been handed the number 7 at Cruzeiro, having worn 17 during the first few months of his loan spell. He was excluded from a couple of matchday squads while transfer negotiations were ongoing, but he returned to the team on June 1st.
The negotiations reportedly revolved around the currency of the payment, with Cruzeiro preferring to pay in dollars rather than euros due to a favourable exchange rate. Once that was resolved, the deal was back on.

Marquinhos made six appearances (three starts) for the Arsenal first team, scoring one goal and assisting one more. Despite his bright start to life in north London, a couple of underwhelming loan spells meant it was ultimately inevitable that he’d be moving on.
The good news is that he’s found a club keen to bring him in and give him a fresh opportunity, back in his home country.
