Arsenal goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard has suffered another setback, breaking his finger in training while preparing to represent Denmark at an Under-19 tournament in Hungary.

It is the second broken bone the young goalkeeper has sustained since signing for Arsenal in the summer, following a fractured thumb in August.

Sources indicate the 18-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six to seven weeks, a blow that could see him miss the remainder of the season.

Nygaard, who joined Arsenal from FC Nordsjaelland as a free agent last summer after six months without a club, has been a regular fixture for the club’s Under-21 side, sharing goalkeeping duties with fellow prospect Tommy Setford.

The club rates him highly, viewing him as a future first-team option, but injuries have disrupted his progress in his first season in North London.

The Danish youth international has had an eventful start to life at Arsenal, quickly integrating into training and earning a spot on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

However, his thumb injury in August forced him to the sidelines, delaying his development at a crucial stage in his adaptation to English football.

Taking to Instagram at the time, Nygaard wrote, “Not what I hoped for – a broken thumb. But I’ll be back! Thanks to Andrea Cudazzo and the Arsenal medical team for taking care of me.”

Despite the setbacks, Arsenal remain confident in Nygaard’s potential. The young Dane has already shown promise in his performances at youth level and for Denmark’s Under-16, Under-17, and Under-18 teams. The club’s investment in him, bringing him in after trials with the club and Paris Saint-Germain, reflects their belief in his long-term prospects.

For now, Nygaard faces another rehabilitation period, hoping to return before the season’s conclusion.

But, with two breaks in less than a year at Arsenal, his immediate priority will be staying fit as he looks to cement his place in the club’s plans for the future.

And also, perhaps, adding more milk to his diet.
