Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo as the Brighton & Hove Albion star’s agent is ‘pushing’ for a move to the Emirates Stadium or Chelsea, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who has already completed the £27million capture of Leandro Trossard and signed Jakub Kiwior for £20million, could add further reinforcements to his squad ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

Arsenal transfer news – Moises Caicedo

According to MailOnline, Arsenal have submitted a second offer worth £70million as they look to get a deal for Caicedo over the line ahead of the January window slamming shut.

But the report suggests the Seagulls are still playing hardball over the central midfielder and are set to turn down the big-money bid.

Having already seen Chelsea fail with a £55million proposal, Arsenal were also frustrated in their attempts to land Caicedo as a £60million offer was snubbed earlier this week.

Following the Gunners’ rejected bid, the Ecuador international took to social media to confirm he wants to seal his Brighton exit, while the south coast club have reacted by telling him to stay away from the training ground until after the transfer window has closed.

told GiveMeSport the 21-year-old may only be allowed to seal a switch by attempting to force a move.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Caicedo?

Jacobs understands that Caicedo’s representatives are putting pressure on Brighton to sanction his exit amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

But the reliable journalist is aware that the Seagulls are in a strong negotiating position heading into the final days of the transfer window.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Brighton are not anticipating any significant outgoings or even necessarily incomings.

“You never say never in a market where the player has got a new agent and they are pushing at their end to explore possibilities because they know that a move to either Arsenal or Chelsea is a huge opportunity for their client.

“But, by the same token, Brighton have got all of the cards. It’s mid-season and it is not a transfer that they would like to happen.”

How much could Caicedo cost Arsenal?

According to The Times, Brighton have attempted to deter suitors from making further bids by slapping a £100million price tag on Caicedo.

The report suggests the Seagulls’ owner, Tony Bloom, will not sanction another big-name departure after already selling Trossard, who was left ‘humiliated’ by boss Roberto De Zerbi, to Arsenal.

Caicedo still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his £15,000-per-week contract, meaning there is no reason for Brighton to lower their financial expectations.

If Arsenal are willing to meet their Premier League rivals’ demands, the South American will join Jack Grealish in being the most expensive acquisition in British football history.

It would also result in Brighton making a massive profit as they only spent £4.5million to sign Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle two years ago.
