Altay Bayindir was the hero as Manchester United beat Arsenal 5-3 on penalties after a thrilling FA Cup third round tie at Emirates Stadium.
An enthralling game in north London finished 1-1 after 120 minutes of frenetic action, which saw United take the lead early in the second half through Bruno Fernandes before being pegged back by Gabriel Magalhaes' equaliser.
Diogo Dalot was sent off after picking up two quick-fire bookings, putting United under unnecessary stress and duress, and his exit was the catalyst for Bayindir to put in a wonderful showing in the final stages of the game.
Fernandes' goal was a wonderful first-time effort that nestled into the corner of David Raya's goal - the Portuguese benefitting from fine work from Alejandro Garnacho.
Dalot had barely left the fray before Gabriel Magalhaes levelled proceedings with a low deflected finish., before Martin Odegaard missed a penalty for Arsenal - Bayindir getting down to his left to deny the Norwegian.
Chances were then spurned by Kai Havertz and Declan Rice ahead of the game going into extra-time, but despite the home side pushing for a winner, looking to press home their numerical advantage, they were unable to break down a spirited, dogged United.
Havertz was denied in the shootout, with United converting all five of their kicks to earn a famous win and a place in the fourth round.
