This year, Paris Saint-Germain opted to move on from Xavi Simons, who they loaned to Leipzig in the summer of 2023. PSG sold the Dutchman to the German side, but despite his departure, the Parisians still have an invested interest in where he goes long-term.
PSG added a sell-on clause as part of the agreement, allowing them to make a bit more money beyond the initial fee. According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have an advantage over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal is done. Leipzig paid €80 million total, including add-ons, with €55 million paid upfront. Simons is under contract until June 2027, but with multiple clubs tracking him, there’s no guarantee he’ll stick around that long.

Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown says Arne Slot is urging Liverpool to strike a deal for Simons once the summer transfer window opens.
“Liverpool are looking at a deal to sign Xavi Simons,” Brown told Football Insider. “It’s always a positive when the manager knows a player well, and I believe he does here. [Slot is] the real driving force behind the move and that’s important because he knows the way he plays, the positives and negatives to his game and what he would bring to the side.
“He’ll know where he would fit into his system, and believes he would be an upgrade on what they’ve got. Liverpool’s scouts will have had a look at him as well to back up the manager’s opinion. Liverpool have got to be careful because they’ve got a very good side who have won the league, and now they have to think ‘how do we get better?’
“It’s easy to say, but very difficult to do, you have to find the right options. If Slot is a fan of Simons and believes he would be the right fit, then I’m sure he’s a player they’ll go for.”
