Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez ahead of Liverpool’s rearranged Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday—the last-ever league meeting between the two at Goodison Park.Liverpool’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to bottom of the Championship Plymouth Argyle on Sunday not only ended their hopes in the competition but also added to their defensive concerns, with Gomez forced off just 10 minutes into the game. The 26-year-old had only recently returned from a hamstring injury, and his latest setback is a major concern for Slot.Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has missed Liverpool’s last two matches after injuring his thigh in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth. While a serious issue was ruled out, the right-back’s availability for the derby remains uncertain. Slot revealed that the vice-captain has begun to rejoin training but stopped short of confirming whether he will feature against Everton.“Trent has done parts of training sessions with us—just one session yesterday,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference. “We’ll see how he is today. Hopefully, he trains again, and then we have to decide whether we take him to the game.”

Gomez, however, is expected to face a longer spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected re-injury in the same leg as his previous hamstring problem. “Joe, it’s the same leg again where he had the injury last time,” Slot confirmed. “We’re still assessing that, but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”When asked if it was concerning that Gomez’s injury had recurred in the same area, Slot admitted: “That’s mostly a concern.”With Conor Bradley rested for the FA Cup defeat, all eyes will be on Alexander-Arnold’s fitness ahead of Wednesday’s derby, where Liverpool will look to bounce back and tighten their grip on the Premier League title race.
