Cody Gakpo scored two goals for Slot’s side, while Mohamed Salah and Szoboszlai found the back of the net once each.

It was Szoboszlai who opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 11th minute.

The 24-year-old Hungary international midfielder found the back of the net when he drove a shot at the near post after his Liverpool teammate and French defender Ibrahima Konate threaded a ball through to him.

The win against Ipswich at Anfield means that Liverpool stay at the top of the Premier League table, six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

Liverpool manager Slot has raved about Szoboszlai and has noted what often goes notice about him.

Arne Slot praises Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai

Slot told Liverpool’s official website when asked if Szoboszlai has specifically been asked to take more shots: “I think that’s the development the team is in, because when we played Brentford we had 37 shots, a record in the Premier League for an away team.

“And then because he is involved in that team, he will probably take a few shots then as well. It is us, the players behind the ball, bringing our attacking players even more in promising positions than we did in the beginning of the season.

“Then if you zoom in on Dom, I think at the beginning of the season he would have played that ball to Mo, which most of the time was a very good choice because Mo can definitely score a goal as well. And now he decided to go for the goal himself and scored the goal himself.

“Nice for him because, in my opinion, he is a bit underestimated. Not by me, but he doesn’t always get the credits for the fact he is very important for this team, because his work rate is unbelievable. He just keeps on running with the highest intensity, and that is so important for a team that wants to compete for something.”

View: Dominik Szoboszlai will play his part for Liverpool this season

With Liverpool aiming to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season, Szoboszlai will play his role for the team in the coming weeks and months.

The 24-year-old is an important player for the Reds, who have been linked with Milos Kerkez, and has done well so far this season.

The dynamic midfielder has scored three goals and given two assists in 15 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League.

The Hungarian star has made five starts and two substitute appearances in the Champions League for Liverpool this campaign, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.

Liverpool will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on PSV away from home in the Netherlands in the League Stage game of the UEFA Champions League.
