Arne Slot explains Liverpool's lack of summer transfer activity

New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has admitted he'll be 'surprised' if the club end up not signing any players during the 2024 summer transfer window.

Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss in June after the German confirmed his departure from the club following nearly nine successful years in charge at Anfield. Along with a managerial change, there's also been some changes behind the scenes at Liverpool too, with Richard Hughes becoming the club's new sporting director.

Where there hasn't been much change, however, is in the senior squad. Despite Slot and Hughes arriving, the Reds are yet to sign a single player during the current transfer window.

This lack of business is in notable contrast to previous windows, with the Reds having forked out a whopping £150m on players last summer alone.

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool's pre-season clash with Real Betis, Slot addressed fan concerns regarding the club's lack of activity in the market, stating that he expects a few new players to come through the door.

"If you inherit a team that's really good, it's not so easy to find players who are even higher especially because those ones need to be available as well. Richard more than me is working really hard on that. He keeps me updated on that," said Slot.

"If there's any news on that we will come to you. We already have a good team, but it would be a surprise for all of us if we don't bring any player in. That will probably happen in the end. For now, we're just waiting for the players to come back and the right ones to sign."

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a number of players in recent weeks, including Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo, free agent Adrien Rabiot and talented RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan.
