Arne Engels has enjoyed a very impressive season with Celtic, playing 51 times for the Hoops and scoring 10 goals while picking up two winner’s medals for the Premiership and the League Cup.

Now the Belgian midfielder has the chance to complete a clean sweep of Scottish football’s domestic trophies when Celtic take on Aberdeen at Hampden this Saturday in the Scottish Cup final.

He has already experienced cup final success at the National Stadium, having played his part in the dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Rangers in the League Cup back in December when he scored one of the spot-kicks in the shoot-out.

He wants to experience that winning feeling again this Saturday, and he and his team-mates are looking forward to the game against Aberdeen and the chance to win a ninth treble for the club, and a first domestic treble for the 21-year-old Belgian internationalist.

Speaking ahead of the Hampden showdown, Arne Engels said: “We’ve worked for it the whole year and it’s a chance to get the treble.

'For me, it will be an amazing feeling to hopefully get that.'

“You know that if you play for Celtic, you’re hopefully going to win trophies, so that was a reason to come here and compete in every competition and I think we’ve done that really well.

“It’s not something that happens too often in other clubs, but it’s also not as easy as maybe some people are saying.

“We did amazing during the season in all the games that we played and hopefully we’ll end it really well.”

One of the many benefits that Engels has found in coming to Celtic is in learning from his more experienced and successful team-mates, none more so than his skipper, Callum McGregor, and the man who is now Celtic’s most successful player of all-time, James Forrest.

“It’s amazing to see how they still want to win everything and still want to win every game,” Engels said, “and you want to learn from that in how they behave in a week like this, going into a really big game.

'That’s a real positive thing for me here to see those two, and all the other guys who have also already won a lot of silverware, and see how they do that.'

“You dream of coming here and winning trophies, so to end up this year with two trophies already in the bag is amazing, and to hopefully get another one, that would make everything perfect. So it’s up to us to grab the trophy and win the treble.”

And Engels is also hoping to deliver the Scottish Cup to the Celtic supporters who will pack into Hampden on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder will also be cheered on by family and friends at Hampden, and he’s hoping it will be a memorable occasion for everyone of a green and white persuasion.

“It’s always nice to have the fans there and to see them happy,” Engels said.

“We have a lot of great experience of Hampden Park so I hope we can keep this up and keep the momentum and keep the happy faces in Hampden.”
