The fourth Austrian in Bologna’s history, Arnautovic is a physically imposing centre-forward with a long international career. He has represented his country for the past 13 years and has also played in six different club divisions, playing over 400 games.

Gifted with both feet and a broad technical repertoire, he can also hold the ball up like very few other strikers. Marko unites physicality with quality and returns to Italy 11 years since winning the treble while on loan at Mourinho’s Inter as a 20-year-old from Eredivisie club FC Twente. He then moved to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, where he scored 14 goals in three seasons and earned himself a move to Stoke City.

The turning points of his career came in the 2015/16 season when he was part of an impressive strike trio alongside Bojan Krkic and Xherdan Shaqiri. He scored great goals and he scored big goals, playing with great consistency and personality. He was Stoke’s top scorer that season with 11 goals and seven assists, helping the Potters to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League. In the meantime, he was a key part of the Austria side that qualified for EURO 2016 in France, which ended at the group stage.

In the summer of 2017, after four years and 125 appearances for the Staffordshire side, he moved to the UK capital to join West Ham. The Hammers finished comfortably in midtable in spite of a managerial turnover in midseason. The following season, after a strong transfer window – with ex-Lazio winger Felipe Anderson among the signings – the Hammers under Chilean coach Pellegrini finished tenth in the Premier League, with Arnautovic reaching double figures for goals for the third time in four seasons.

He was then convinced to move to China, joining Shanghai Port FC in 2019. Furthermore, 20 goals in 39 games for Austria since then helped Die Burschen to qualify for EURO 2020. He has a total of 27 goals and is Austria’s sixth-highest goalscorer of all time. He now joins Bologna on a permanent deal.
