Southampton are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League after getting themselves relegated last season, finishing bottom.

Russell Martin left Swansea City to take over the club in the summer and has implemented a possession-based style of play that has worked wonders in pushing the Saints towards the top end of the division.

With Saints being in the Premier League for just over a decade before their drop to the Championship, it means that they still have a few players in the squad that have been playing their football in the Premier League - resulting in higher market values.

Transfermarkt (converted from euros to pounds).

5 Flynn Downes - £6.03 million

Downes is a central midfielder who is currently on loan at Southampton from Europa Conference League champions West Ham United, having helped them win their first European trophy in over 40 years.

He has been one of their most consistent performers this season, with Martin signing him after previously working with him at Swansea.

It remains to be seen if he will return to Saints, whether that be in the Premier League or the Championship, but at a value of a little over £6 million, Saints will surely be pushing to get him for that price.

4 Taylor Harwood-Bellis - £18.97 million

Harwood-Bellis is another one of Southampton’s loanees for this season, coming on loan from last season’s treble winners Manchester City.

The centre-back won the Championship with Burnley last season, so arrived at St Mary’s as a great acquisition that would help them get promoted.

An assured defensive presence, he has great vision and loves a diagonal pass - he has been integral to the way Martin likes to play.

3 Che Adams - £12.93 million

Adams has been in Hampshire since the summer of 2019 when he arrived from Birmingham City for a reported fee of £15 million.

The Scotland international has had rumours surrounding his future all season due to him being out of contract at the end of the season.

Despite this, though, Adams has done well, having his best goal-scoring season in a Southampton shirt, scoring more than 15 goals.

2 Kyle Walker-Peters - £17.25 million

Walker-Peters has been at St Mary’s since joining from Tottenham Hotspur for £12 million in the summer of 2020 after a loan move to the Saints.

He has been one of the most consistent performers since his arrival, with many being surprised that he stayed when they were relegated, with reported interest from Fulham and Arsenal.

Walker-Peters has shown his Premier League quality again this season - he has been solid defensively, penetrative in attack and is a top dribbler, which led to him being included in the Championship Team of the Season by the EFL.

1 Adam Armstrong - £13.8 million

The striker has been with Southampton since the summer of 2021 from Blackburn Rovers, when he joined for a reported fee of £15 million.

Armstrong has excelled this season in his return to the Championship, taking the drop down a division with aplomb.

Having struggled in the Premier League with the Saints in his first two seasons, he now has his best season in goals and assists.
